Plus there’s the Queenstown Winterfest in June – a mix of winter sports, comedy, street parties and fireworks. Coromandel has a vibrant Maori arts scene, with many artists welcoming visits to their studios and selling their creations at local weekend markets.
Best places to party – The Viaduct, Auckland – check out Soul Bar, The Loaded Hog, or Parnell. Courtenay Place and Queens Wharf in Wellington for dedicated after-dark partying. Night skiing in Queenstown followed by a beer at the Naughty Penguin – magic.
Don’t forget travel insurance if you’re heading east. Even though New Zealand is pretty safe and you’re close to home, sometimes the unexpected happens. Cover yourself against accidents or losses with our standard travel insurance options or, for the hard-core heroes, there’s an optional Adventure Pack add-on. If you’re planning on a snow trip, we also have a Snow Pack that may provide cover if you can’t get a run because of bad weather, lose your gear, or have to cancel your trip due to injury.
